The Last Day of the First Week of the Rest of My Life

Image
Monday, June 16, 2025 Long day. Spent a good chunk of it in the emergency room with Mom. She's okay but will be in the hospital for a few days.  She's now got a diagnosis which is a huge relief. I didn't get home from the hospital until about 7:30 p.m. Dale and I were both starving and went to The Lowbrow for dinner. I had a couple Old Fashioneds and then a Macanudo when we got home.  Today marks the end of the first full week of the rest of my life. I'm getting out of full time teaching and my last day was a week ago. It would be an understatement that I'm really excited.

Day Off Tomorrow

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 Not a bad day at school today and we get tomorrow off for Rosh Hashanah.                       Mom's been in the hospital since yesterday for pneumonia. After my cigar Dale and I grabbed dinner at Northbound and then headed over to Fairview to visit her. She's doing much better and she's in good spirits. Looks like they're going to keep her another night.

That. Special Day

Sunday, August. 11, 2024 Brunch with Mom and Dale this morning at Creekside. .  Dale headed over to the gym around 3:00. Lit up a big Romeo y Julieta not long after Dale left. It was quite enjoyable. A a little Bombay along with it.  Litstened to Stampede Vol. 1 by Orville Peck.   Also listened to Ultra Lounge Vol. 5: Bachelor Pad Royale.

Post Covid

Monday, February 6, 2023 So, I'm over Covid. My first day out of work was Tuesday, January 10, although I felt something might be up the Saturday before. I wasn't back in school until Wednesday, January 18. It was quite a long haul. Dale ended up getting it and Mom too. Thank God that's over with. I haven't been that sick in 30 years and this was still the worst. Anyway, I was well enough for a cigar on January 28. See above.  Had another one yesterday. Another Ashton.  Dry January is over so I had a little rum with my cigar out in the garage. Had a little more when I went back inside. It's gonna be a damp February. I really appreciated cutting back.

2022 - Summer of Cigars: July 3rd

Saturday, July 3, 2022 Smoked a Romeo y Julieta this afternoon and although I've smoked a number of these before and like them, this one, for some reason was a little bitter for my taste. It was passable but not my best experience with this brand. Had a nice Zoom call with Mom, Dale, Sam and his family. We had a really great conversation about some family history that's come out of the genealogy work I've been doing recently. I think it was interesting and meaningful for everyone which completely delights me. I'm hoping knowing and talking about our shared history will bring all of us closer together.  I'm still reminiscing about cigars during the summer of 1982 and some of the music I was listening to at the time. I remember the first time I heard "Gloria" by Laura Branigan. I had my Sony Walkman (the one Dad had given me about a month earlier during my 10-day stay in the hospital as I recovered from a bicycle accident) radio on as I was finishing mowing ...
