The Cigar Life

  Dale took me to  Stogies on Grand a few days ago so I could add some more cigars to my humidor for June. I was down to one Camacho but picked up a couple Asylum 13s, a Digger, and a Payback, which, by the way, I've really come to love.  T'was a nice day to sit out in the yard. (Most days have been lately.) Picked and Asylum 13 for today. Poured myself an Old Fashioned. And thoroughly enjoyed myself. I love summer in Minneapolis. And always have since I was a kid. June is always nice because it's not as humid yet, generally cools down in the afternoon, and isn't as buggy as it will be.  (Photos and AI enhanced image from June 4)

  Friday, February 14, 2025 Friday's finally here. I made it . !   It was a week of indoor recess every day for the kids, a full moon, a Valentine's day party, and conferences. Yep, they were pretty riled up this week but I managed as well as I could and it was all just fine.    The temp was up a little bit since I last smoked on Wednesday. Decided to go for a bigger cigar, an Oliva, since it was more pleasant out. I lasted about 40 minutes before I got a little too cold. Got a little shoveling in while I was outside.   Dale and I had stopped by Lunds after he picked me up from school. We just got some prepared foods from the deli and I picked up a pre-made Old Fashioned from Cork Dork.  Dale and I had drinks after my cigar and shoveling.  It was a quiet, low key, and pleasant Valentine's Day. 

Saturday, December. 14, 2024 Wednesday,  December 11 We've had the coldest weather so far this season during the past week.  On Wednesday the wind chills were below zero. Lit up a small Romeo y Julieta and stuck close  to the house which helped shield me from much of the wind.  Once inside I warmed up with some vodka.  Thursday, December 12 Chilly the next day too.  Sunny and not as windy.  Smaller cigars are better when short on time and when it's cold. Daylight is so much shorter at this time of year and there isn't much of it left when I get home from work.  We went out for dinner at The Howe for build your own mac & cheese night. I had an Old Fashioned to start and Dale had some red wine.  No school for kids tomorrow as it's a PD day for teachers. Supposed to be a little warmer this weekend. Hopefully the humidity will be low so it won't feel raw. Would be nice to light up a big Camacho or a Hoyo. 

 Friday, November 15, 2024 Yep, another long week. Still dealing with the aftermath of the election and STILL dealing with the effects of that damn time change. This morning was the first time in the last two weeks that I wasn't up before 5 am. I don't remember it ever taking this long to adjust.                         Left work to walk home at 3:30 and the sun was already quite low in the sky. Wanted to be home by 4:00 so I could light up and still have some daylight for a cigar. I took the above photo right at 4 pm and you can sense of how low the sun is.  Lit up a Camacho which is pretty much my favorite now.  Felt good to relax amidst the waning light.  Dale left for a bike ride shortly after I lit up.  I had forgotten to bring out the Bose speaker so I had him do that for me before he departed.  Sunday, August 25, 2024 Another hot day.  Didn't keep me from lighting up a Hoyo de Monterey Excalibur.   And sitting in the back yard.  Came inside when I finished. and put on some music.                                   And had a drink with Dale for cocktail hour. 

  Friday, May 10, 2024 Long, tiring week but at least the weather's been nice and today is no different. Was excited and ready to light up after school.  Got set up outside in the backyard.  Quite windy so I lit up my little Macanudo in the garage.  Beautiful afternoon but when the sun went below our front yard tree... ... it was a bit cooler especially with the wind. This was the last of my Macanudos in the tin. All the rest were fine but this one was a little tough on the draw and a bit bitter.   So, I changed to jeans and threw on a jacket. Finished the last of my Macanudos. All the others in the tin were fine but this one was a little tough on the draw and a bit bitter.                          Listened to Bronco by Orville Peck. Dale arrived home and joined me in the yard.  I lit up another cigar. This one was from a new tin of little Romeo y Julietas and was more full bodied than the Mac...
