The Cigar Life

Wednesday, February 12, 2025 It continues to be incredibly cold - single digits. At school, the kids have had indoor recess every day so far this week, the moon is full (today), conferences tomorrow after a full day with kids, and no school Friday for students but I'm doing conferences all that day. Plus we're having our Valentine's party tomorrow since the kids are off on Valentine's Day. This has all made for some really keyed up kids.  Cigar after work and then dinner with Dale at The Lowbrow since we won't be able to do our regular Thursday night out due to conferences tomorrow. Still pretty frigid out. All in all I think I'm pacing myself rather well. 

 Monday, February 10, 2025 This gon' be a long week. Bitter cold, full moon, Valentine's Day at school, and parent/teacher conferences. I'm'a hafta pace myself.

Saturday, December. 14, 2024 Wednesday,  December 11 We've had the coldest weather so far this season during the past week.  On Wednesday the wind chills were below zero. Lit up a small Romeo y Julieta and stuck close  to the house which helped shield me from much of the wind.  Once inside I warmed up with some vodka.  Thursday, December 12 Chilly the next day too.  Sunny and not as windy.  Smaller cigars are better when short on time and when it's cold. Daylight is so much shorter at this time of year and there isn't much of it left when I get home from work.  We went out for dinner at The Howe for build your own mac & cheese night. I had an Old Fashioned to start and Dale had some red wine.  No school for kids tomorrow as it's a PD day for teachers. Supposed to be a little warmer this weekend. Hopefully the humidity will be low so it won't feel raw. Would be nice to light up a big Camacho or a Hoyo. 

 Sunday, March 24, 2024 Finished shoveling, ran inside to get another cigar.  I asked Bing to write another story. This time about a man enjoying a cigar in the garage after shoveling,                            Here's the result: "After a long session of shoveling snow, the man retreats to the solace of his garage, a place that feels like a sanctuary away from the biting cold. He leans his snow shovel against the wall, it's blade still dusted with a fine layer of snow, evidence of his labor. Sunday, December 31, 2023 Final cigar of 2023.  Dale and I stayed in for New Year's Eve. It was a quiet peaceful and relaxing evening. Cheers to the New Year.  Magic number: 132

Sunday, February 12, 2023 Pleasantly warmish day with moments of brilliant sunshine which made it perfect for a cigar.  Partly cloudy but the temperature is right. A little gin. And some music.  For anybody from most anyplace other than Minnesota you might find it odd, even incomprehensible, to be hearing about temperatures in the 30s or 40s (or even 50s or 60s) as warm. If the normally extreme low of your climate is in the 30s and 40s, then yes, it would be weird. But if your extreme temperatures are below zero as ours are then 30s and 40s do NOT feel cold especially if you are in proper outerwear, in direct sunlight, and not in the wind. It can feel even warmer if there's a sudden shift within a day or two from below zero to anything "warmer" than that.  Besides, we know how to layer.
