The Cigar Life

 Sunday, July 19, 2026 When I was in Arizona I smoked a lot of cigars with natural, light brown, wrappers as opposed to dark brown, madurao wrappers. I smoke a lot of cigars with maduro wrappers which have been tasting more and more bitter to me lately. I haven't found a lot of cigars with natural wrappers which are more girthful. I love a larger sized cigar like Asylum 13s and La Flor Dominicana Diggers but they all have maduro wrappers.  I'd like to find a more mondo sized one with a natural wrapper. 

 Monday, March 2, 2026 Dale drove me over to Stogies on Grand today so I could restock cigars. They were out of Diggers so I picked up 3 Camachos and 3 Hoyos. Didn't smoke any of 'em today however I did have a little Romeo y Julieta when we got home. Picked up a couple books at Next Chapter Booksellers while we were over in Saint Paul. I love books like the one above. It's easy to read because it has two-page descriptions of different types of birds which appeals to my short attention span and it's also got colorful pictures which appeals to my strong visual sensibilities and desire for beautiful images. I've got another book in this series titled Around the World In 80 Fish and Other Sea Creatures .  The reaseson for the appeal of this book to me are very similar to the ones for the other book above. I read Soul of An Octopus by Sy Montgomery a few years ago and I loved it. Upon preview his one is full of colorful photographs and even more interesting information ...

 Monday, June 2, 2025 Can't believe we're to this point. One week of school left. I've been really good about getting in my 14,000 steps per day. Four more days of school.  *** Tuesday, June 3, 2025 Also good about getting in lots of cigars. This one's a Camacho. Three school days left.  *** Wednesday, June 4, 2025 Warmer today. Another Camacho. These are just too good. Two days left. *** Thursday, June 5, 2025 Two cigars today.  Both little Romeo y Julietas. One day left.  *** No cigar today. Last day of school (for the kids). I've gotta go in Monday to check out of my room.   *** Saturday, June 7, 2025 Another 2-cigar day. Smoked a Hoyo Excalibur this afternoon before dinner.   Dale took me to dinner at Chloe to celebrate being done with school. I drank some Old Fashioneds. Dale had wine.  We both started with the carrot/ginger soup which was delicious. I had the Coq a Vin for dinner which was delicious. Dale had the Arctic Char. He loved it. I ...

  Friday, May 16, 2025 Had Mike & Charisse over for dinner tonight. Dale and I drove to Stogies On Grand yesterday afternoon to pick up a couple of Camachos and some cans of strawberry lemonade Smazey seltzer for me and Mikey. Started out this evening in the backyard. I had an Old Fashioned, Charisse drank some Modelo, Dale had white wine, and Mike drank one of the seltzers (I had one with dinner). I gave Mike the choice of a Hoyo or a Camacho to smoke. He mentioned that the last time he bought a cigar he almost went with a Camacho but decided to go with something else. Anyway he was still curious so he went with the Camacho. Mike had never had one before and he thought it was pretty awesome. I came to them more recently in my cigar history and they're now one of my favorotes. I like the taste but also the girth. It feels good in my mouth. I smoked my Camacho a bit faster than Mike so I lit up a little Romeo y Julieta (see above photo).

  Wednesday, January 1, 2025 Lit up a Camacho as my first cigar of 2025. I'm still on Christmas vacation for the rest of this week.  Quite chilly outside. It's only in the teens.   Lasted about 40 minutes outside. Wasn't quite finished with the cigar.  Here's to 2025. 

 Friday, November 15, 2024 Yep, another long week. Still dealing with the aftermath of the election and STILL dealing with the effects of that damn time change. This morning was the first time in the last two weeks that I wasn't up before 5 am. I don't remember it ever taking this long to adjust.                         Left work to walk home at 3:30 and the sun was already quite low in the sky. Wanted to be home by 4:00 so I could light up and still have some daylight for a cigar. I took the above photo right at 4 pm and you can sense of how low the sun is.  Lit up a Camacho which is pretty much my favorite now.  Felt good to relax amidst the waning light.  Dale left for a bike ride shortly after I lit up.  I had forgotten to bring out the Bose speaker so I had him do that for me before he departed.   Sunday, October 27,  2024 Smoking cigars at a steady pace. The above average temperatures help. There are 3 that I've determined to be my particular favorites. Stopped by Stogies On Grand yesterday and picked up some more them. I'm enjoying Olivas.   They're smooth and mild. I'm really loving the Camachos I've been smoking.  They've got a nice girth and  a bold taste.   Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur #1s have long been one of my favorites. I'd use the following words to describe them: Bold, strong, slightly bitter, spicey, caramel, and slightly sweet. They all comes together great.
