The Cigar Life

  Friday, February 14, 2025 Friday's finally here. I made it . !   It was a week of indoor recess every day for the kids, a full moon, a Valentine's day party, and conferences. Yep, they were pretty riled up this week but I managed as well as I could and it was all just fine.    The temp was up a little bit since I last smoked on Wednesday. Decided to go for a bigger cigar, an Oliva, since it was more pleasant out. I lasted about 40 minutes before I got a little too cold. Got a little shoveling in while I was outside.   Dale and I had stopped by Lunds after he picked me up from school. We just got some prepared foods from the deli and I picked up a pre-made Old Fashioned from Cork Dork.  Dale and I had drinks after my cigar and shoveling.  It was a quiet, low key, and pleasant Valentine's Day. 

Tuesday, December 31, 2024 Dale and I had Mike and Charisse over for NYE. While Dale and Charisse had wine inside, Mike and I lit up a couple Olivas in the garage. We lasted about 40 minutes and weren't completely finished with our cigars but the cold got to us. Note to self: assemble the damn fire pit that's been sitting in the basement and brand new in the box for the last few years.  Magic number: 204 cigars.

Tuesday, December 24, 2024 Dale and I are in Arizona for Christmas to help out with care of his parents.                        Poured some bourbon and lit up a cigar on Christmas Eve Day.  The weather was gorgeous.    And it was fun to hang out by the pool.

  Sunday, October 27,  2024 Smoking cigars at a steady pace. The above average temperatures help. There are 3 that I've determined to be my particular favorites. Stopped by Stogies On Grand yesterday and picked up some more them. I'm enjoying Olivas.   They're smooth and mild. I'm really loving the Camachos I've been smoking.  They've got a nice girth and  a bold taste.   Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur #1s have long been one of my favorites. I'd use the following words to describe them: Bold, strong, slightly bitter, spicey, caramel, and slightly sweet. They all comes together great.

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 Not a bad day at school today and we get tomorrow off for Rosh Hashanah.                       Mom's been in the hospital since yesterday for pneumonia. After my cigar Dale and I grabbed dinner at Northbound and then headed over to Fairview to visit her. She's doing much better and she's in good spirits. Looks like they're going to keep her another night.  

 Wednesday, September 25, 2024 We're getting cooler mornings and evenings with nicely warm days and afternoons.                        Perfect for sitting in the backyard with a stogie.                           It was nice to sit back and unwind after school. The sun is, of course, setting later and later making the light particularly golden for late afternoon.

Mike was over recently. We sat out back after dark and smoked cigars. He told me he loved sitting in my back yard. I love sitting in my backyard too. We sat facing north looking into Josh and Breanna's yard and beyond the other side of the street. With all the lights it really did look rather magical. We looked at the stars too and found the Big Dipper. At this time of year the Big Dipper is easily seen if you look up just past the north of our roof line.

 Saturday, April 4, 2024 Picked up some cigars at Stogies On Grand a week ago today and got more of a variety than I usually do. Olivas have been my go-to lately but this time I chose a Macanudo, Romeo y Julieta, and a Hoyo de Monterrey. On Saturday, April 27, I smoked the Romeo y Julieta. It was nice and not too bitter.                         On Sunday, April 28, I smoked one of my little Macaudos. Pulled out the cowboy hat for the first time in a while.  On Tuesday, April 30, I smoked the Hoyo de Monterrey which I had picked up this past Saturday. The start and the finish were quite enjoyable however part of the center section was a little bitter for my taste. It's been ages since I've had one of these. I'll have to try another one soon to see how it compares.  On Friday, May 3, I went back to smoking an Oliva which is one of my favorites.  These are consistently nice to smoke. Their mild taste makes...

Saturday, April 6, 2024 Lunch with Noel. Lit up a nice Oliva this afternoon.  Another really pleasant day.  Smooth cigar. 

Friday, April 5, 2024 Lit up just before 3 pm.  A bit warmer than it's been this past week and feeling like spring. Which made it nice to sit outside.  I'm gonna miss not having to work.  It's been a nice spring break. Got some mini-projects done.                        And appreciated getting some much needed rest. 

Friday, March 29, 2024 Started Spring Break with an Oliva cigar this afternoon.  It's been a grueling year. I'm looking forward to taking some time and really relaxing.
