From the article More Than a Cigar by Evan J. Elkin as appearing in Cigar Aficionado in the Winter 94/95 issue: "When Sigmund Freud's nephew Harry declined a cigar at age 17, his illustrious uncle started as if thunderstruck. He paused and then, weighing his words carefully, admonished Harry: "My boy, smoking is one of the greatest and cheapest enjoyments in life, and if you decide in advance not to smoke, I can only feel sorry for you." (Freud: A Life for Our Time. Peter Gay, 1989, Anchor Books/Doubleday.) For Freud, the decision not to smoke was surprising, even illogical. Indeed, one can hardly think of Freud, father of psychoanalysis, without thinking of cigars. He was seldom photographed without a cigar in his hand, which is no surprise, since he typically smoked 20 per day. As he wrote, analyzed patients and took his daily walks, Freud smoked continually."

Wow. Twenty a day. That's a little hard to comprehend. This summer I think I'm averaging one every other day and I was starting to feel a little guilty about that. All that said, I truly share Freud's love for cigars. Living in Minnesota you have to take advantage of nice weather when you've got it. I love sitting in the backyard with a cigar. After my cigar Dale and I grabbed dinner at Northbound and then headed over to Fairview to visit her. She's doing much better and she's in good spirits. Looks like they're going to keep her another night.

Snow and Shoveling and a Story

Sunday, March 24, 2024 We're finally getting a little snow in what has been a mostly snow deprived season.                             We're supposed to get a lot and it's a wet and heavy snow so I'm trying to keep up with it. Lit up a Romeo y Julieta and got started.  I asked Bing to write a story about a man smoking a cigar and shoveling snow. This was the result: "As the man shovels the freshly fallen snow, the chill in the air is temperd by the warmth of the cigar perched between his lips. Another Great Day for a Cigar in the Garage

Saturday, February 11, 2023 Another great day for a cigar in the garage.   It's nice to have light after 5 p.m. Had some rum with my cigar; Plantation to be specific.  Listened to Samara Joy. Finished up my cigar as it was getting dimmer.  I went inside for cocktail hour and had a martini. Dale had some wine. And listened to some more Samara Joy. Glad to hear she won a Grammy recently.  Had the junk truck come pick up our living room sofa and chair earlier today. Thankfully we have a couple of other chairs to sit on as the new couch and chair won't be delivered until this Monday.  Nice day.
